Cattle

Good Friday. In the heartlands of Brazil, a gang silently steals a herd of cattle during the night. With no support from the police, Ana, a recent widow, seeks the help from alternative powers to recover her stolen cattle. The person who lays down the law in that region is Major Juvêncio, a former guerrilla hunter. It doesn't take long for the Major's "pitbulls" to locate the criminals, but the problem is that this gang is indistinguishable from the "respectable local citizens". Thus, the conflict reveals to us a pastor with a soy empire, a lawyer working for land-grabbers who aspires to be mayor, indigenous people fighting against gold miners, a crime boss whose dream is to see the ocean, a hired gunman in the middle of an existential crisis who joins the landless peasants, and of course Ana, who at the end of her quest on Easter Sunday will experience her own resurrection. In this land, everything grows and flourishes. A Third World western. For our "wild west" still exists today.
