Letters from Iraq

What does it mean to be a foreigner in a country that is socially, politically and culturally distinct from your own during not one, but two major wars? "Letters from Iraq" is a documentary that explores this question more deeply. Built from the memories of Brazilian workers who lived in camps in that desert in the 80s, the film reveals characters who lived with joy - despite the fear of the wars. The project was awarded a grant of USD20,000 by a local film fund for development and research. During the preliminary research, approximately 230 individuals who were in Iraq were contacted, and 80 of them were pre-interviewed. So far, 10 hours of video archival material, 3000 photographs, about 40 written letters and 7 hours of audio-recorded letters have been collected. It was selected for Rio2C Pitch in 2022, Conecta Fiction & Entertainment in 2023, and it was recently selected to take part in Sunny Side of the Doc.
